Certain dishes taste better when it’s cold outside. While many people make soups and stews, there’s another better option. This hamburger stroganoff is delicious, filling, and hearty. Especially during the winter, it makes an excellent meal. After serving it, there’s a good chance it’ll become everyone’s favorite.

Here are the ingredients you’ll need to make this amazing dish.

  • One 10.75-ounce can of condensed cream of mushroom soup (undiluted)
  • 1 1/2 pounds of ground beef (80 percent fat works best)
  • 1 cup of beef broth
  • 1/2 cup onion (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup fresh mushrooms (chopped)
  • Dash of garlic salt
  • Cooked white rice or egg noodles
  • Fresh parsley (chopped fine)

Now comes the fun part of making this hamburger stroganoff recipe.

Step One

First, place the beef in a skillet and cook it on medium heat. While cooking, use a wooden spoon or spatula to break it into crumbles. In other words, you don’t want big chunks. You should cook the beef for six to eight minutes or until it’s no longer pink. Also, you’ll need to drain off the fat.

Step Two

Next, add the chopped onion, as well as the garlic salt, to the cooked beef. This time, you’ll cook it for a minute or two until the onion becomes tender.

Step Three

Add the flour and cook the meat for two to three minutes. In addition, be sure to stir it continuously.

Step Four

You’ll now add the beef broth, the cream of mushroom soup, and the mushrooms. At this point, reduce the heat to allow the ingredients to simmer. You should cook the stroganoff between eight and nine minutes. Also, stir occasionally.

Step Five

This is when you’ll carefully fold the sour cream into the beef mixture. However, you only need to heat it for about 30 seconds to ensure the sour cream’s hot. Then add salt and pepper to taste.

Step Six

To serve the hamburger stroganoff, put it on top of cooked and warm rice or noodles. Then sprinkle the top with fresh parsley.

A Few Tips

Although this stroganoff is delicious, you can kick things up a notch. One option is to add chopped carrots during the cooking phase. Another is to add fresh peas during the last 10 minutes of the cooking time.

In addition, whether you don’t like sour cream or perhaps don’t have any on hand, you can substitute it with plain Greek yogurt. Also, if you’re not overly fond of rice or egg noodles, the stroganoff is just as delicious when served on toasted bread or mashed potatoes.

By storing the hamburger stroganoff in a plastic or glass airtight container, it’ll keep in the refrigerator for up to three days. However, you can also freeze it. In that case, it’ll last for as long as three months.
