Krekel’s Custard: Try A Central Illinois Classic

When you’re feeling hungry, it can be hard to find a place to please the whole family. Kid friendly restaurants that also please adults care few and far between. Luckily, there’s a great place to start a new family tradition with a classic hamburger and milkshake meal. Krekel’s Custard and Hamburgers has been serving burgers to central Illinois since 1949.

Where to Go

With locations in Springfield, Decatur, Pawnee, Mt. Zion, and Macon, there’s plenty of choices of where to get your burger fix.

In the winter, all the locations are open from 10:30 a.m. until 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Krekel’s is closed on Sundays.

The Food

Krekel’s serves a great burger. You can get a single, double, or triple. Don’t forget to add cheese!

If you’d rather have a different kind of sandwich, Krekel’s has a great selection of those, too. You can get pork tenderloin, fish, or several styles of chicken on sandwiches.

You can add fries, onion rings, or chili on the side.

The Ice Cream

But everyone’s favorite part about Krekel’s is the ice cream. You can get it served so many ways.

You can get it plain served in a cup or a cone. They have vanilla, lemon, chocolate, and strawberry to tame your sweet tooth. They also have sixteen different flavors of shakes and malts. You can get sundaes with hot fudge, caramel, and other kinds of toppings. Their concretes are a great choice if you want something really special. Mix in toppings like cookie dough or Oreos.

If you don’t know what you want, try one of their specialty treats. After all, they’ve been serving ice cream for seventy years. They know what’s good!
